Almost everyone goes through stress at one time or another, and herbs provide a natural cure that anybody can take without fear of any contraindications.
Stress, if not remedied, can get worse and can lead to more serious psychological health problem. Stress, especially if recurring and prolonged, can affect the way a person behaves, works and relates with other people, and can therefore cause problems within a persons family or workplace.
Herbs for Natural Stress Relief
There are many kinds of herbs that have been known to provide relief for stress. Among the widely used herbal remedies for stress relief is chamomile, which can soothe the nerves and even induce sleep, and in that way, relieve tension and stress.
Another effective herb for natural stress relief is lavender. Lavender has been widely used in various forms - as an ingredient in soaps, perfumes, candles and teas. Lavender is a very good relaxant, whether when taken in a drink, inhaled as a scent, or rubbed on the skin as a soap or soothing lotion. Its overall effect is to relax the mind and the body, creating a general feeling of relaxation and freedom from worry. This makes lavender a great herb for stress relief.
Some herbal medicines come from the roots of certain tropical plants, like kava kava, a root plant that grows in the islands of the South Pacific. It has some kind of an alcoholic effect which relaxes the muscles and induces sleep.
Some stress-relieving herbs originated in and are widely used in old Europe, and their use has persisted to this day. One of these herbs for natural stress relief is St. John's Wort. Many research studies have been conducted regarding the efficacy of this herbal cure. The research results showed that it is just as effective as prescription drugs for stress relief. However, patients are advised to consult a doctor first before taking this preparation.
There are situations, however, that herbs may not work by itself for natural stress relief, without other supplementary remedies. One has to observe also a good diet, and exercise, which is an important way to release pent-up tensions. In any case of stress, it is important to look also into the other possible causes, which may not be simply too much work, but could have more serious underlying causes.
